Study Finds Some Mosquito Species are Genetically Better Programmed to Transmit Malaria

A team of multinational researchers, led by those at Virginia Tech, has found that some species of mosquitoes are better than others in transmitting malaria. Of about 450 different species of mosquitoes in the Anopheles genus, only about 60 can transmit the Plasmodium malaria parasite that is harmful to people.
