Job Summary:

The Social Science Technician collects, analyzes, organizes and presents data needed by resource managers, planning and safety staff, and the park-wide management team. This position may be filled at the GS-05, GS-06 and/or GS-07 level. These positions are located in the Division of Resources Management and Science, Visitor Use and Social Sciences (VUSS) Branch, at Yosemite National Park. These positions are Term, Less-Than-Full-Time, with a time limit not to exceed one year and one day, but they may be extended up to 4 years without further competition. The incumbent will work a full time hourly work schedule for not less than 6 months but not more than 50 weeks in a year. Two positions are expected to be be filled at this time, however, additional positions may be filled from this announcement if management deems it necessary. Area Information: Yosemite National Park, California, known worldwide for its spectacular natural beauty is the backdrop for this position. Sitting astride the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the park covers 1,182 square miles of varied wilderness ecosystems, from river valleys to alpine meadows to lofty 13,000 foot high peaks. Elevation at the Valley floor is approximately 4000 feet. The park is open year-round with the majority of activities occurring during the busy season from March through October. Yosemite Valley is located 208 miles from San Francisco, 81 miles from Merced, and 94 miles from Fresno. Shopping, dental, medical, postal and laundry services are available in the park. El Portal is a small community bordering the west-side of Yosemite National Park and 15 miles west of Yosemite Valley.
